![]() ![]() How do you look back upon the three demos as far as strengths, weaknesses, and overall impact through the media and public?ĭiBianca: The very first demo was very close to the way Denial was, but still a little more technical on the guitar. It was finding its way back then – we were just as much a part of the experimentation in South New Jersey, no one was doing this – the only other band from our part of Jersey that was doing anything heavy was Faith or Fear – and they were very much like Overkill on steroids.ĭead Rhetoric: You recorded three demos prior to signing with JL America for your debut full-length Cryptic Void. We put together Vicious Circle at the very end of 1987, and started going in 1988- we knew what kind of music we wanted to do. For two months we were on our own writing material, Denial went on to do a demo and that broke up – Brian came back to us and was ready to venture into the heavy stuff. That only lasted about a year, and myself and Dave (Surran), drummer of Vicious Circle as well were in that band – we wanted to experiment more with the technical side, I wanted to get a lot more technical with the guitar instead of just all bar chords. We were almost doing crossover, it was a mix between the aggressive, hardcore feel and thrash that was coming in. I was in another band in 1987 called Denial. We were just experimenting back then around 1984-85. I guess this is when the heavy music was just starting to come around. One was in 1984 when I was in high school. Vinny DiBianca: Previous to Vicious Circle, I had been in a few bands with Brian Chicano. Take us back into those early days – how did the lineup come together, and did you know right away the type of music you wanted to play or was it a trial and error, feeling out process? You’ll understand why there have been long gaps between recordings, the numerous vocalist changes, and also why the band have returned to crush the world through their latest EP Unearthed Precision.ĭead Rhetoric: Vicious Circle originally started in the late 80’s. What does this have to do with the following band Vicious Circle you ask? Well – they developed in the late 80’s, releasing three demos and eventually signing a deal with JL America for their debut album Cryptic Void – pummeling listeners with an intense exercise in technical thrash with death nuances.Īs you’ll discover in this interview with founding guitarist Vinny DiBianca, there have been many twists and turns in the decades since within the VC camp. And if you were fortunate enough and craved more, you started tape trading. You relied on friends, magazines, radio shows if you had a strong enough signal to get them in, and the burgeoning development of music programming like Headbangers Ball. Remember guys, keep the underground music scene strong by supporting the artist/band/labels.During the 1980’s, if you wanted deeper understanding of heavy metal – it wasn’t necessarily that easy to find at your fingertips. I can’t say that this is album full of fun, I think this is much more serious work and it sounds appropriate. Most of the songs are short and sharp, even the vocals sound more savage. This LP contains more Hardcore material, the riffs and sound are more punching. Reflections was released in 1986, and on this album Vicious Circle made some really noticable changes. This music is loud and catchy it greatly differs from modern Punk and I really like it. This is how Punk is supposed to sound, just true energy, raw power and uncontrolled speed. Hoarse guitar sound, primitive tunes, riffs and ton of fun. Thirty odd minutes of simple, fast paced, furious Hardcore Punk. This debut album is a perfect example of the consequences of uncontrolled boiling blood, youth and protest. Let’s go back in time to 1985 when The Price Of Progress was released. This double LP is a great present for all nostalgic punks! ![]() Note that all of these bullets are charged with raw aggression and protesting spirit. Vicious Circle was honored to start this historical Vol 1, which contains the first two albums from the VC discography, 28 songs in total. This reissue looks amazing, gate fold, colored vinyl and a huge booklet with old photos, posters and tons of information. And it’s fucking great that Power It Up Records picked them up for “The History Of Australian 80’s Punk”. Vicious Circle were formed in Melbourne in 1983, this band is a living legend of violent Hardcore Punk. ![]()
